When do you need a lawyer?

Posted by Michael Trent | Nov 03, 2021 | 0 Comments

It isn't fashionable for a lawyer to say sometimes you just don't need a lawyer.  After all, to a hammer, everything looks like a nail, right?  We meet with many people in our practice, and while its true that the vast majority of the folks who come in do really need, or at least could benefit from having ,an attorney, every situation is different and its not always the case.

At the heart of our practice is the idea that we want to do everything possible to make sure folks that hire us are better off for making that decision.  I have sat in our conference room after having a consolation many times and come the conclusion that it was in the potential client's best interests to handle something themselves if they are comfortable doing so.  These situations vary, but an example would include folks who were victims in an auto accident but weren't injured and the insurance company was offering more to settle than we thought could be gotten at trial.  While we never can guarantee a particular outcome, one thing we can fully control is that we evaluate every case individually, that we are always straight and honest with the potential client about our take, and that the focus is always on the best interests of the client or potential client.

This is why it is so important when facing a legal issue to meet with an attorney who will assess your situation and shoot straight with you.  Its always for the best to do that initial consultation even if you think the matter is something you can handle, so that you can get that honest evaluation and guidance.

If you find yourself in a tricky legal situation or thinking you may need an attorney in one of our practice areas and would like to speak with us for a consultation, we'd happy to set something up at 434-471-4339!
